Bank of Canada Museum offers free events during Financial Literacy Month

The Bank of Canada Museum is marking the 15th anniversary of Financial Literacy Month (FLM) this November with a series of free activities aimed at helping Canadians of all ages learn more about money management.

Financial Literacy Month has been held every November since 2011 as a national effort to improve financial knowledge and skills among Canadians. The initiative, led by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), involves organizations across the country working together to support informed financial decision-making.

This year’s theme, “Let’s Talk Money,” focuses on encouraging open discussions about personal finances. The Bank of Canada Museum will offer activities for children, workshops for adults, and resources for teachers throughout the month.

Event highlights include a Money Fair on November 1 featuring experts from organizations such as the FCAC, the Canada Education Savings Program, and MediaSmarts. Attendees can learn about topics including taxes, savings, and fraud prevention in one location.

Financial literacy workshops will be offered on November 8–9 and 15–16. These sessions are designed for newcomers and parents and will be hosted by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, providing practical guidance on managing money in Canada.

On weekends, children can participate in an Avatar Market Game where they practice budgeting skills with a $15 limit. Creative craft activities will run all month, allowing children to create items like goal-trackers and papercraft piggy banks that promote smart saving habits.

Virtual presentations titled “All About Money” are scheduled for November 18 and 19. Elementary students across Canada can join these online sessions to learn more about Canadian currency.

Teachers who visit the museum during November will receive free classroom resource kits to help them teach financial literacy concepts.
