The Bank of Russia has announced the release of a new 50-ruble commemorative coin on August 18, 2025. The coin features an image of the Saur-Mogila Memorial Complex, a site located in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Saur-Mogila is a burial mound standing at 277.9 meters and held significant strategic value during the Great Patriotic War. It was liberated from German forces in August 1943 after intense fighting.

The coin is round with a diameter of 28 millimeters and consists of a disc and an outer ring. Both sides have a relief rim around the edge. The edge itself is corrugated and inscribed twice with ‘50 РУБЛЕЙ’ (50 RUBLES), separated by asterisks.

On the obverse side, inscriptions appear around the circumference: ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA) at the top and ‘2025’ at the bottom. Laurel and oak twigs are depicted on either side, extending onto the central disc. The center displays the number ‘50’ above ‘РУБЛЕЙ’ (RUBLES), indicating its face value. Inside the zero of ‘50’, there is a security feature showing both ‘50’ and ‘РУБ’ (RUB) when viewed from different angles. The Moscow Mint trademark appears at the bottom.

The reverse side shows a relief image of part of the Saur-Mogila Memorial Complex, along with inscriptions on the ring: ‘ГОД ЗАЩИТНИКА ОТЕЧЕСТВА’ (YEAR OF THE DEFENDER OF THE FATHERLAND) at the top and ‘САУР-МОГИЛА’ (SAUR-MOGILA) at the bottom.

A total of one million coins will be minted. According to regulations, this coin will serve as legal tender throughout Russia and must be accepted for all types of payments without restriction at its face value.
