Bank of Russia issues commemorative coins for Kogalym’s 50th anniversary

The Bank of Russia will issue commemorative coins on August 19, 2025, to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of Kogalym. The city, located in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area — Yugra, is recognized for its role in oil production and processing.

Two types of coins will be released as part of the Cities series. The first is a three-ruble silver coin with a fine metal content of 31.1 grams and a fineness of 925/1,000. It has a round shape and measures 39 millimeters in diameter (Catalogue No. 5111-0526). The second is a one-hundred-ruble gold coin with a fine metal content of 15.55 grams and a fineness of 999/1,000. This coin also has a round shape and measures 30 millimeters in diameter (Catalogue No. 5217-0050).

Both coins feature relief rims around their circumference on both sides. The obverse side includes “a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES) or ‘100 РУБЛЕЙ’ (100 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2025 г.’ (2025), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.”

The reverse side varies by denomination:
— For the three-ruble coin: “features a relief image of the sculptural composition Glory to Labour dedicated to the discoverers of Kogalym oil fields and the explorers of the North Tyumen against the background of the images of an oil rig and a pumping unit, laser-treated for matte finishing, a relief ornamental strip across the lower part of the coin, and inscriptions ‘КОГАЛЫМ’ (KOGALYM) at the top around the circumference and ‘50 ЛЕТ’ (50 YEARS) in two lines in a round frame on the left at the bottom.”
— For the one-hundred-ruble coin: “features relief images of the sculptural composition The Drop of Life in the centre, the Church of the Holy Martyr Tatiana on the left, city houses on the right, a relief ornamental strip across the lower part of the coin, and inscriptions ‘КОГАЛЫМ’ (KOGALYM) at the top around the circumference and ‘50 ЛЕТ’ (50 YEARS) in two lines in a round frame at the bottom.”

Both coins have corrugated edges and are minted in proof quality with each having an issuance volume limited to three thousand pieces.

The Bank stated that “the new coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation and are mandatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.”
