Today, Senate Democrats prevented the confirmation of two of President Trump’s nominees for key financial and transportation roles. Chairman Tim Scott from South Carolina attempted to secure unanimous approval for Luke Pettit as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and Marcus Molinaro as Federal Transit Administrator. Both nominees had previously received bipartisan support in the Senate Banking Committee, with votes of 19-5 and 20-4, respectively.

In his remarks, Chairman Scott expressed strong support for both candidates. “I rise in support today for two strong nominees, Luke Pettit and Marcus Molinaro, who were moved out of the Banking Committee with broad bipartisan support,” he stated.

Luke Pettit has been nominated to serve as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Institutions. According to Scott, “Luke brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of our financial system,” gained through his work on the Senate Banking Committee and as a Senior Policy Advisor for Senator Hagerty. He also highlighted Pettit’s private sector experience.

Scott praised Marcus Molinaro’s nomination as Federal Transit Administrator by emphasizing his extensive experience in Congress and leadership as Dutchess County Executive. “Marcus is a proven leader who understands that effective transit systems are the backbone of vibrant communities,” Scott said.

Scott urged his colleagues to confirm both nominees, expressing confidence in their abilities to excel in their respective roles.
