The Federal Reserve Board has published the findings of its latest Senior Financial Officer Survey, which gathers insights from senior financial officers at banks regarding their approaches to managing reserve balances. The survey aims to collect information on how banks manage reserves, anticipate changes in their balance sheets, set deposit pricing strategies, and view developments related to stablecoins and digital assets.

According to the Board, “The Senior Financial Officer Survey is used by the Board to obtain information about banks’ reserve balance management strategies and practices, their expectations for potential changes in both the size and composition of their balance sheets, their deposit pricing strategies, and their expectations around stablecoins and digital assets.” The most recent edition of the survey was conducted with assistance from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York between September 19 and September 29, 2025. Respondents included banks that collectively held about three-fourths of all reserve balances in the U.S. banking system during that period.
