Despite ongoing tensions between the United States and China, U.S. Treasuring Secretary Janet L. Yellen said in a social media post she was "glad" to be in the communist nation last week for four days of meetings and diplomacy.
Yellen posted to her Twitter page on Thursday, July 6, marking her first day in China.
"I am glad to be in Beijing to meet with Chinese officials and business leaders," Yellen said in her Twitter post. "We seek a healthy economic competition that benefits American workers and firms and to collaborate on global challenges, we will take action to protect our national security when needed, and this trip presents an opportunity to communicate and avoid miscommunication or misunderstanding."
Yellen also indicated she had her list-to-do from President Joe Biden's administration.
"@POTUS charged his Administration with deepening communication between our two countries on a range of issues, and I look forward to doing so during my visit," Yellen said in her Twitter post.
