Suzdal, a town in the Golden Ring of Russia, is known for its architectural monuments listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Its small streets and picturesque meadows have served as settings for well-known films such as "Andrei Rublev," "Balzaminov’s Marriage," and "Charodei (Enchanters)."
On July 12, 2024, the Bank of Russia will issue a three-ruble silver commemorative coin titled ‘The Millennium of the Foundation of Suzdal’ as part of the Cities series (Catalogue No. 5111-0507). The coin has a fine metal content of 31.1 grams and a fineness of 925/1,000. It is round with a diameter of 39.0 mm.
Both sides of the coin feature a relief rim around the circumference. The obverse displays a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation, along with inscriptions reading ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), as well as the denomination ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), the year ‘2024 г.’ (2024), the chemical symbol for silver from Mendeleev’s Periodic Table, fineness, the Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.
The reverse features a relief image of the Suzdal Kremlin complex against an ancient city panorama with laser-treated matte finishing. A stylized relief figure of a falcon—the city’s heraldic symbol—is framed with an old Russian ornament also treated for matte finishing. Around the upper circumference is inscribed ‘1000-ЛЕТИЕ СУЗДАЛЯ’ (THE MILLENNIUM OF THE FOUNDATION OF SUZDAL).
The edge of the coin is corrugated and it is minted in proof quality with a mintage limited to 3,000 pieces. This new coin is legal tender in the Russian Federation and must be accepted for all types of payments at face value without any restrictions.
