On August 9, 2024, the Bank of Russia issued new 2-ruble silver commemorative coins as part of the Red Data Book series. The new coins feature three distinct designs: Siberian Grouse, Marbled Polecat, and Wrinkled Ground Beetle.
The 2-ruble silver coins have a fine metal content of 15.55 grams and a fineness of 925/1,000. They are round in shape with a diameter of 33.0 mm. Both the obverse and reverse sides have a relief rim around the circumference.
The obverse side features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation along with inscriptions such as ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination ‘2 РУБЛЯ’ (2 RUBLES), the year ‘2024 г.’ (2024), the chemical symbol of silver from Mendeleev’s Periodic Table, fineness, Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.
The reverse side features:
- The coin 'Siberian Grouse' (Catalogue No. 5110-0185) has a relief image of a Siberian grouse on a branch against a forest landscape background treated for matte finishing. It includes the inscription ‘ДИКУША’ (SIBERIAN GROUSE) around the lower circumference.
- The coin 'Marbled Polecat' (Catalogue No. 5110-0186) shows a marbled polecat standing on stones against a stony landscape background treated for matte finishing, with the inscription ‘ПЕРЕВЯЗКА’ (MARBLED POLECAT) on the left around the circumference.
- The coin 'Wrinkled Ground Beetle' (Catalogue No. 5110-0187) depicts a wrinkled ground beetle on a plant with laser-treated matte finishing and has the inscription ‘МОРЩИНИСТОКРЫЛАЯ ЖУЖЕЛИЦА’ (WRINKLED GROUND BEETLE) on the left around the upper circumference.
The edge of these coins is corrugated and they are minted in proof quality with each design having a mintage limit of 5,000 pieces.
These new coins are legal tender in Russia and must be accepted for all types of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
