CBSA team receives Bank of Canada counterfeit deterrence award

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) team has been awarded the Bank of Canada counterfeit deterrence award. The recipients, Darren Ouderkirk, Stéphane Legault, Philippe Sincennes, and Jacquie Gawlina, collaborated with the Bank of Canada and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s National Anti-Counterfeiting Bureau.

Throughout 2023, this team developed a method to flag and analyze international shipments of interest, leading to the seizure of large volumes of counterfeit Canadian bank notes. The award acknowledges their contributions in intelligence analysis, partnership building, and safeguarding Canada's financial security.

The winners were honored at the annual Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Summit in Halifax on August 13, 2024. Established in 2004 by the Bank of Canada, this award recognizes exceptional efforts by criminal justice professionals and educators in preventing and deterring bank note counterfeiting in Canada.
