The Bank of Russia has released a series of commemorative coins to honor Alexander Pushkin, a significant figure in Russian literature. These coins celebrate the 225th anniversary of Pushkin's birth and are part of the Historical Events series.
The collection includes three types of coins: a 3-ruble silver coin, a 100-ruble silver coin, and a 10,000-ruble gold coin. The specifications for these coins are as follows: the 3-ruble silver coin contains 31.1 grams of fine metal with a fineness of 925/1,000 and measures 39.0 mm in diameter; the 100-ruble silver coin has 1,000 grams of fine metal with the same fineness and is 100.0 mm in diameter; and the gold coin contains 1,000 grams of fine metal with a fineness of 999/1,000 and also measures 100.0 mm in diameter.
Both sides of these coins feature intricate designs. The obverse displays the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation along with inscriptions including "РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ" (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA), denominations, year of issue, chemical symbols, mint trademarks, and fine metal content details. The gold coin additionally shows its serial number.
The reverse side varies for each denomination:
- The 3-ruble silver coin showcases images related to Pushkin's life and works such as his portrait, an inkpot, scenes from a winter trip, and decorative elements.
- The 100-ruble silver coin depicts Pushkin against notable landmarks like the Hermitage Theatre and Bridge alongside lines from his poem "Monument."
- The gold coin features Pushkin seated under an oak tree with scenes from his fairy tales.
All coins have corrugated edges and are minted in proof or proof-like quality. They are legal tender within Russia and must be accepted at face value for all payments.
These commemorative pieces reflect on Pushkin’s lasting impact on Russian culture through various artistic mediums including opera, ballet, performance art, and film.
