Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio expressed his condolences to the family of former Senator Tim Johnson following his passing. Johnson, who represented South Dakota, served as Chair of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee during part of Brown's tenure on the committee from 2007 to 2015.
Brown highlighted Johnson's dedication to public service and their collaborative efforts in response to the 2008 financial crisis. "Tim Johnson dedicated his life to public service," said Brown. He emphasized their work on the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform law aimed at protecting working families and preventing taxpayer-funded bailouts.
Under Johnson's leadership, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was established with a focus on safeguarding workers' interests. "A proud son of South Dakota, Tim used every opportunity he had to fight for South Dakotans and for all working families," noted Brown.
Brown described Johnson as an honest and effective leader who set a strong example as committee chair. He also extended personal sympathies: "Connie and I send our deepest condolences to Barbara and their family."
