Bank of Russia extends fee-free period for digital ruble transactions through 2025

The Bank of Russia has announced an extension of the fee-free period for digital ruble transactions, now lasting until December 31, 2025. This decision aims to help businesses manage costs associated with preparing for the full-scale launch of the digital ruble expected in mid-2025 and its initial widespread use.

The central bank emphasized that individuals will always be able to conduct transactions using the national digital currency without incurring any fees.

Starting January 1, 2026, a fee structure will be implemented for businesses. Payments made in digital rubles for goods and services will incur a fee of 0.3% of the transaction amount, capped at ₽1,500. Housing and utility companies will face a lower fee rate of 0.2%, with a maximum charge of ₽10 per transaction. Business-to-business transfers will attract a flat fee of ₽15 per transaction.

Additionally, users can open or close accounts on the Digital Ruble Platform without any charges.
