The University of Ottawa has emerged as the winner of the tenth annual Governor’s Challenge, a national student competition organized by the Bank of Canada. The announcement was made after the final round held on February 1, 2025.
In this competition, teams take on the role of advisors to the Bank's Governing Council. Six teams reached the final stage, where they presented their economic outlook for Canada and proposed monetary policy recommendations to a panel of senior central bank officials.
The other finalists included teams from Université de Sherbrooke, University of Guelph, University of Alberta, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Western University. The event commenced on November 13, 2024, with initial presentations involving over 100 students from 26 Canadian universities. By November 25, six teams were selected for the finals.
The Governor’s Challenge aims to provide undergraduate students in economics and finance with a deeper understanding of the Canadian economy and the Bank's functions. Since its inception, more than 60 participants have gone on to join the Bank.
