Over the course of 2024, credit institutions successfully prevented 72.17 million fraudulent attempts to steal clients' funds, a significant increase from the 34.77 million thwarted in 2023. The total amount of funds saved amounted to ₽13.5 trillion, compared to ₽5.8 trillion the previous year. This information is detailed in the Overview of transactions not authorized by customers of financial institutions.
Despite these efforts, cyber fraud activity has not decreased. In 2024, fraudsters managed to steal ₽27.5 billion, which represents a 74% increase over the previous year. The Bank of Russia implemented several measures last year to enhance communication between the regulator, banks, and law enforcement agencies concerning data exchange on fraudulent transactions. Now, information about thefts is sent to the regulator's database even if victims report directly to the police without first contacting their banks.
In addition to these measures, in 2024, the Bank of Russia initiated the blocking of nearly 172,000 phone numbers used by fraudsters and slightly over 46,000 fraudulent websites and social media pages.
