The Bank of Russia has announced the establishment of parameters for weekend trading to mitigate risks associated with exchanges and their clients. Trading activities conducted on Saturdays and Sundays will be considered additional to Monday's trading sessions, rather than independent sessions. This approach aims to avoid the provision of clearing and settlement services during weekends. The relevant instructions have been communicated to exchanges by the regulator.
Initially, exchanges are expected to implement a price corridor with both cap and floor values set at approximately 3% of the securities prices traded on Friday. The Bank of Russia recommends including highly liquid shares in the list of securities eligible for weekend trading to prevent increased market volatility.
The Bank of Russia plans to monitor the trading activity of market participants, assess pricing quality, and evaluate the range of financial instruments traded on exchanges. This monitoring will help determine the feasibility of expanding weekend trading and implementing additional restrictions if necessary.
