The Bank of Canada has announced the recipients of its scholarship awards for the 2024-25 academic year. These scholarships are targeted at students with disabilities, Indigenous students, LGBTQ2S+ students, francophones, and students who identify as women or as members of racialized groups. These awards are part of the Bank's commitment to fostering diverse identities and ideas, which it believes leads to innovative thinking and improved policy outcomes.
The awardees for the upcoming academic year are as follows:
- Abigail Meloche is pursuing a Bachelor of Economics at Carleton University.
- Allison Tsypin is pursuing a Bachelor of Mathematics at McGill University.
- Andy Duan is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Princeton University.
- April Quill is pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a major in Statistics at the University of Manitoba.
- Wendy Liao is working toward a bachelor’s degree in computer science and business at Western University.
- Elliot Thordarson is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce at the I.H. Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba.
- Katherine Brennan has completed a bachelor's degree in economics and statistics at the University of Toronto and plans to pursue a master's degree in economics.
- Katherine Karapetrovic is pursuing a Bachelor of International Economics at the University of British Columbia.
- Laila Virani is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business at the University of British Columbia.
- Linda Nidale-Sadeck is pursuing a Bachelor of Economics at Carleton University.
- Manahil Malik has completed a bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of Toronto and plans to pursue a master's degree in economics.
- Manuel Fernandez is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Management, Economics, and Finance at the University of Guelph.
- Melody Johnson is pursuing a college diploma in Protection, Security, and Investigation at Conestoga College.
- Rand Al-Nauimi is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce with an option in Business Technology Management at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa.
- Rosana Gao is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Science at the University of Toronto.
- Simeon Muepu is pursuing a Bachelor of Finance at the Université de Montreal.
- Xavier Desroches Borelly is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at Western University.
- Yeo Eun Chi has completed a bachelor's degree in business administration with a specialization in finance at the University of Toronto and plans to pursue a master's degree in economics.
Each recipient of the Bank's Scholarship Award for Post-Secondary Students will receive a sum of Can$8,000 to assist with their tuition. The scholarships are available to students across several categories including those with disabilities, Indigenous students, LGBTQ2S+ students, francophones, women, and racialized groups. Recipients may also be offered job opportunities at the Bank of Canada, including mentorship from a Bank employee.
Additionally, the Bank offers the Master’s Scholarship Award for Women in Economics and Finance. Eligible candidates must have completed, or be in the final two years of, an undergraduate degree at a Canadian university and identify as a woman. This award provides Can$10,000, alongside potential employment and mentorship opportunities at the Bank.
