In the first quarter of 2025, banks successfully thwarted 43.8 million fraud attempts aimed at stealing money from customers. This figure is more than double the average for the four quarters of 2024, as detailed in the Review of Reporting on Information Security Incidents Related to Funds Transfers. Through these efforts, banks protected ₽4.6 trillion of customers' funds.
Despite these preventive measures, cybercriminals managed to carry out 296,600 fraudulent transactions during the same period, totaling nearly ₽6.9 billion. This number aligns closely with the average for the past four quarters. The largest amounts were stolen through remote banking channels such as online banking and transfers, often utilizing mobile malware.
The Bank of Russia took action by initiating the blocking of 19,800 phone numbers linked to fraudulent activities and shutting down 7,100 fraudulent websites and social media pages.
