The Bank of Russia is set to release silver commemorative coins honoring the country's football clubs. In 2025, coins will be dedicated to Zenit (Saint Petersburg) and Lokomotiv (Moscow), followed by CSKA (Moscow) and Spartak (Moscow) in 2026.
The initiative is part of the Russian Sports series, which began in 2023 with coins featuring sports societies' emblems. This series aims to celebrate significant events, outstanding athletes, popular sports, and domestic sports societies.
The Bank of Russia evaluates proposals for new coins in this series based on input from the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation. To qualify for a commemorative coin, a sports society must meet specific criteria: it should have been established at least 100 years ago, represent popular sports, deliver strong performance, and participate in major Russian competitions.
