Around 10% of Russian households have clearly opted for cashless payments, while nearly the same percentage—9%—only paid in cash.
People prefer cashless facilities because they make payments faster, easier, and more convenient. The three most popular payment methods include bank cards (77%), mobile transfers and online banking (44%), and the Faster Payments System (34%).
Cash is often chosen as it can be used to make payments anywhere at any time. A quarter of respondents use cash in their daily transactions, most frequently at small stores, markets, filling stations, or on public transport. Half of respondents keep banknotes and coins on hand for situations where cashless payments might be impossible, and a third of respondents hold their savings in cash.
