The Economic Secretary to the Treasury has confirmed the reappointment of Marjorie Ngwenya as an External Member of the Prudential Regulation Committee (PRC). Ngwenya will serve another three-year term, starting from September 5, 2025, and ending on September 4, 2028.
Emma Reynolds, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, said: "I am pleased to confirm the reappointment of Marjorie Ngwenya to the Prudential Regulation Committee. During her first term, Marjorie made significant contributions to the Committee’s work, and her continued service will help to ensure that the committee retains the benefit of her extensive industry experience and expertise, so it can deliver on the government’s mission to regulate for growth."
Ngwenya's background includes serving as a former chairperson of the Canon Collins Trust in the UK and a trustee of South Africa's Legal Resources Centre. She is also a past President of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) and was part of its governing council for eight years. Her executive career highlights include being a member of Liberty Group's Group Executive Committee in South Africa as Chief Strategist and previously serving as Chief Risk Officer for Old Mutual’s African Operations. She has not participated in any political activities over the last five years.
The Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), which supervises banks, insurers, and major investment firms, makes its most critical decisions through the PRC. The committee is chaired by the Governor of the Bank of England and includes several high-ranking officials such as Deputy Governors for Financial Stability, Markets and Banking, Prudential Regulation; along with external members appointed by the Chancellor.
