The Bank of Russia has announced the release of a new 10-ruble commemorative coin dedicated to the Smolensk Region. The coin, part of The Russian Federation series (Catalogue No. 5714-0106), will be issued on August 5, 2025.
According to details provided by the Bank of Russia, the coin is round with a diameter of 27.0 mm and consists of a combined structure featuring both a disc and an outer ring. Both sides of the coin have a relief rim around their circumference.
The edge of the coin is corrugated and includes the inscription ‘ДЕСЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ’ (TEN RUBLES) repeated twice, separated by asterisks.
On its obverse side, inscriptions appear on the ring: ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA) at the top and ‘2025’ at the bottom. Images of laurel and oak twigs are shown on either side of the outer ring, with elements extending onto the central disc. In the center are the number ‘10’ and below it ‘РУБЛЕЙ’ (RUBLES), indicating its face value. The zero in ‘10’ contains a security element—a small figure ‘10’ and inscription ‘РУБ’ (RUB)—that can be seen from various angles. The Moscow Mint trademark is located at the bottom of the disc.
The reverse features a relief image of Smolensk Region’s coat of arms along with inscriptions encircling it: ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) at the top and ‘СМОЛЕНСКАЯ ОБЛАСТЬ’ (SMOLENSK REGION) at the bottom.
A total mintage for this coin is set at one million pieces.
The Bank notes that “the new coin is legal tender of the Russian Federation and is mandatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at its face value.”
