The Bank of Russia has announced the release of a new 3-ruble silver commemorative coin dedicated to hockey. The coin will be issued on August 11, 2025, as part of the Russian Sports series.
Ice hockey in Russia dates back to December 1946, when the first USSR Championship took place. Today, Russia is home to three professional hockey leagues and one junior league.
The coin is made from silver with a fine metal content of 31.1 grams and a fineness of 925/1,000. It measures 39 millimeters in diameter and has a round shape. Both sides feature a relief rim around the edge.
On the obverse side, there is a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. Inscriptions include "РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ" (Russian Federation), "БАНК РОССИИ" (Bank of Russia), "3 РУБЛЯ" (3 Rubles), and "2025 г." (2025). Additional markings indicate the chemical symbol for silver according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table, its fineness, the Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.
The reverse side displays relief images of two hockey players contesting for the puck and a goaltender set against a goal net background finished with laser treatment for matte effect. The inscription "ХОККЕЙ" (Hockey) appears along the upper right circumference.
The coin’s edge is corrugated and it is minted in proof quality. The total mintage is limited to 3,000 pieces.
According to the Bank of Russia, "The new coin is legal tender of the Russian Federation and is mandatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at its face value."
