The Bank of Russia will release a new commemorative coin to mark the 200th anniversary of Cherkessk, the capital of Karachayevo-Circassia. The issuance is scheduled for August 11, 2025.
The coin is part of the Cities series and has a denomination of three rubles. It is made from silver with a fine metal content of 31.1 grams and a fineness of 925/1,000. The coin has a round shape with a diameter of 39 millimeters. Both the obverse and reverse sides feature a relief rim around the edge.
According to the Bank of Russia, “The obverse of the coin features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2025 г.’ (2025), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.”
The reverse side shows “a relief image of a memorial to the soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War, with a memorial wall against the background of images of trees and clouds, laser treated for matte finishing, and the inscription ‘200/ЛЕТ/ЧЕРКЕССК’ (200/YEARS/CHERKESSK) in three lines on a matte background at the bottom of the coin.”
Cherkessk was founded as Batalpashinskaya stanitsa at a Russian military fortification on the Kuban defense line. The city changed its name three times: first Sulimov, then Yezhovo-Cherkessk, before adopting its current name in 1939.
The edge design is corrugated, and each coin is minted in proof quality. The total mintage will be 3,000 pieces.
The Bank states that “the new coin is legal tender of the Russian Federation and is mandatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at its face value.”
