Martin Thomas has been named General Counsel at the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA). In this role, he will lead the bank's legal team, which is responsible for providing legal services, managing legal risk, and offering strategic advice to support the RBA’s charter functions and priorities.
Thomas brings over three decades of experience in financial services, banking, and payments law. Before joining the RBA, he served as Executive General Manager and General Counsel for Customer Services Legal at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. His career also includes senior legal positions at Deutsche Bank and National Australia Bank (NAB), giving him extensive expertise in both domestic and international markets.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales. Thomas will begin his new position on 10 November 2025.
